Lee found found out he had kidney cancer in 2017. His wife Mary, 40, said: “He had an operation and got the all clear. In the summer off last year it came back in the same area and in the psoas muscle. He had another operation but it came back again in September. This was followed by more treatment and another operation. It came back again in December and is growing very aggressively all over his body.

Mary said: “The Sterephonics was our first ever gig together. I remember us walking over a bridge over the River Liffey as we sang I don’t know where we are going now (Dakota).‘ He was so happy when he saw Kelly’s video, he cried.

“What made it so special was Kelly meant every word, it was genuine. It made it so special.

“People have been absolutely amazing, I never expected that. We are private people but there just a point where I asked and everyone came and helped.”

“Lee said ‘I can’t believe how many people love us and want to help’. The nurses in St David’s are brilliant. His room has a view of trees. If he couldn’t be home this is the next best place. He said it’s like being on a weekend away, he’s content.”

Lee is a huge rugby fan and has also been sent a video message from Liam Williams thanks to an old school mate from Llantarnam Comprehensive School, Ian Gough.
