When Elaine Paige challenged her Twitter followers to join her for a duet it wasn’t long before Wayne Beecham accepted. The singer asked for people to take the part of Barbara Dickson and sing their 1985 number one hit: I Know Him So Well with her. She shared a video with the song lyrics for fans to singalong.
He is well known in this area for his role as musical director for the Congress Youth Theatre. He works for Upbeat Music and Arts and that sees him taking music projects into local schools. Last year he started Lleisiau Torfaen Voices, a local community choir that has grown to over 60 members.
Wayne said: “As we know singing is so good for the soul and can certainly raise spirits during these times. My friend, an NHS worker, saw her tweet and sent it to me and thought it would be a great idea if I did it.
“I didn’t take a lot of persuasion and after seeing a fair few serious efforts on Twitter I decided to put my own spin on it. There is nothing funnier than seeing two divas competing during a duet on the musical theatre stage!”

“I dedicated the performance to all my friends who work for the NHS by way of a thank you. So far it has been seen by over 4,000 people on Facebook and I am delighted with the response. It has been good to remind people that we can still smile and laughs, no-one can take that away from us. I received a really nice message off Elaine and she retweeted the video.”
Wayne is no stranger to being involved in funny videos on social media. In 2017 a video of him singing his Best Man’s speech at his friend’s wedding went viral and each year he shares a Carol of the Day to raise money for charity.
Elaine replied to Wayne’s tweet to praise his ‘fantastic singing’ and send ‘love & thanks’ to NHS staff.
