Work to build the new Gwent Police headquarters at the Llantarnam Industrial estate in Cwmbran is progressing well.
Construction of the 178sqm building began in February and, once complete in late 2021, it will accommodate 480 police officers and staff.
The force control room, which is the first point of contact for calls, will be based in the new building, alongside major crime teams, training functions, support services and the Police and Crime Commissioner’s office.
The £32million HQ is about half the size of Gwent Police’s current premises in Croesyceiliog and will make an estimated year on year saving of about £1.1million due to lower running costs.
Police and Crime Commissioner Jeff Cuthbert said: “I am delighted to see work progressing well. The new facility will be fit for the purpose of modern policing, giving Gwent Police a base from which they will be able to protect and serve the people of Gwent for many years to come.
“It is part of the first phase of our strategy to improve and modernise policing facilities across Gwent.”
Chief Constable Pam Kelly said: “We need to ensure that our facilities are up to the challenges of modern policing.
“Our new headquarters will allow us to provide the best possible support to our frontline teams, helping them to protect and reassure the people of Gwent.”
