There are ten categories for nominations this year, some including the adult and young volunteer of the year award and The Heart of the Community, a new award which recognises a group of volunteers, for their contribution and impact in the community.

Finalists will be informed of their nomination and invited to attend the event which will be held on 2 October 2021 at Pontypool Active Living Centre.

Councillor Fiona Cross, Torfaen executive member for children, families and communities, said: “The amazing contribution volunteers have provided during the pandemic cannot be understated. In the initial weeks of the pandemic, we had an overwhelming response from our communities, from food banks to phone befriending services.

“Volunteers have supported so many people in need, which would have been impossible to achieve had we all worked in isolation. I’m proud, thankful and indebted to those who stepped forward.”

Aimi Morris, Torfaen Voluntary Alliance’s operational executive officer, said, “TVA has seen a record number of organisations, community members and informal groups adapt their services quickly in a response to the pandemic, supporting so many people in various ways.

“These awards are an opportunity for us to highlight the huge impact volunteering has across the third sector in Torfaen. I hope you will join us in thanking everyone using the hashtag #TorfaenSaysThanks. If you’ve been a volunteer or benefitted from volunteering please get posting!”
