My name is David Thomas and I am standing as an Independent candidate in the Cwmbran Community Council by-election for the Two Locks ward this Thursday. I grew up in the Hollybush area of the Two Locks ward and it is really disappointing to see how the area has declined over the years yet our Labour led Cwmbran Community Council is sitting on a staggering £1.5 million of reserves. This is our money and some of it should be going to improving our communities.

If elected, I will bring back some pride to the community and see some of the Community Council’s resources actually spent on improving our ward. We all know that it is a good idea to put some money aside for a rainy day and some level of reserves is necessary, but guess what? The Council shouldn’t be squirreling our money away when we have just recovered from a pandemic and are now facing a cost of living crisis. I would say that rainy day has arrived, wouldn’t you?

In the Llantarnam ward where I am a councillor, councillors have invested heavily in new litter bins, organised a clean-up of our bus stops and street signs and regularly join in with volunteers on litter picks. We have also set up a foodbank and supported voluntary groups who make such a difference to our community.

If elected, I will bring the same energy, enthusiasm and transparency to the Two Locks ward and being Independent, I am not bothered about upsetting the applecart if that’s what’s needed to get things done.

I also promise to be visible and not just show up at election time when your vote is needed. I am very active on social media and am always available to those residents who might need my help or advice.

Your vote does matter, so may sure you vote on Thursday and vote for David Thomas your Independent candidate.

Polling stations

Two polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 1 September 2022. If you live in the ward and are eligible to vote you will have been sent a polling card telling you what station to attend on the day. You don’t need to take your polling card to the station to vote.
