Around 900 homes across Croesyceiliog and Llanyrafon have picked up a free pack of SmartWater to help protect their home from burglars.
SmartWater is a liquid that you use to mark any valuable items in your home. Every pack is unique and registered to your home so any stolen items can be traced back to you.
The company’s website claims:
SmartWater® SmartTrace™ offers a unique combination of a brand that is feared by criminals and revolutionary forensic technology that provides robust traceability to your valuables and assets. Our forensic traceable liquid assigns your possessions with their own unique forensic code, allowing them to be traced back to you and criminals back to the crime.
Croesyceiliog and Llanyrafon Community Council and Gwent Police teamed up to organise a number of events through 2022 where residents could collect a pack.
At a community meeting this week councillors agreed to share any remaining packs in their stock with local clubs and organisations.
Cllr Colin Crick said the community events had “pushed awareness” and was “positve action” to reduce crime in the area.
Cllr Stewart Matthews said that a local allotment site had used a pack and put up SmartWater’s warning signs.
Cllr Mark Price said: “We’ve exhausted how many households will come forward” and said they should now look for more organisations and partners to use their remaining packs.
