A new veterans’ support hub opens in Cwmbran next week, as part of Armed Forces Week 2023.
Torfaen Veterans Support Hub will open every Wednesday from 10am-12pm at Woodland Road Sports and Social Club.
It aims to be a venue where veterans can meet fellow individuals who have shared similar experiences. The hub will offer a wide range of services, including assistance with benefits and housing, access to mental health resources, and opportunities for acquiring new skills.
During this year’s week, Newport will host a military parade for National Armed Forces Day on Saturday 24 June, with both serving members of the forces and veterans taking part. The parade starts at 10am from the High Street and finishes at John Frost Square and will be followed by the Red Arrows, who will fly over at 11am.
Councillor Gaynor James, Torfaen Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “The launch of this support hub signifies the council’s unwavering commitment to supporting and honouring the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces Community.
“We wholeheartedly recognise the ongoing necessity for veterans’ support, and this has been demonstrated through initiatives like our Armed Forces Covenant. The Veterans’ Support Hub will aspire to provide a valuable resource for the Armed Forces community, acknowledging their past and present contributions to our country.”
