A Plaid Cymru MS got to try his hand at a bit of DJ’ing when he visited a day centre in Torfaen.
Peredur Owen Griffiths, Plaid Cymru MS for South Wales East, popped into the Able Day Centre in Upper Cwmbran to see the work they do with adults with learning disabilities.
Able was established in 2006 and started off with a radio but have expanded to provide a wide range of activities that includes gardening and cookery for their visitors.
Whilst on the tour with Able Managing Director Shaun O’Dwyer, Peredur was asked to choose a track for the radio broadcast and introduce it.
Peredur said: “I had a lovely time being shown around the Able day centre in Cwmbran. I was impressed with the wide range of activities on offer for adults with learning disabilities and I was in awe of the passion and enthusiasm that staff have for their work.
“Able is providing vital, enriching experiences for vulnerable adults and it is difficult to overstate the importance of the work they are doing for their people that visit them, their families and the wider community.”
Peredur added: “I was put on the spot a little bit when I was asked to pick a track and introduce it live on air. I chose Frank Sinatra’s classic My Way and managed not to mess the introduction up thankfully!”
‘The centre is an integral part of the community’
Afterwards, Mr O’Dwyer said: “We appreciate Peredur coming to visit us to see what we provide at the Able day centre. It is also good to have politicians come to see for themselves the work we do and the differences we are making to people’s lives.
“The centre has become an integral part of the local community and has developed a reputation over the years for being a warm and friendly place for everyone that uses it.
“We are testament to the importance that the third sector can play in providing an important facility for vulnerable adults.”
