Staff at Torfaen’s credit union took the Torfaen MP on a tour of their offices and talked about the services they offer to the local community.
Gateway Credit Union (GCU) is owned by more than 5,000 members across Torfaen and Monmouthshire. They describe themselves as a “local community bank that provides savings and loan facilities for the benefit of our members. We are owned by our members and believe that everyone should get a fair deal, whether you are well off or struggling financially.”
A spokesperson for Gateway Credit Union said: ” Our purpose was to engage in a discussion regarding the operations of GCU and the support it provides to the community in Torfaen and the surrounding area. He expressed his appreciation for the dedication and commitment demonstrated by GCU in supporting the community. He acknowledged the importance of our efforts in promoting financial inclusion and stability, particularly during these challenging times. We were able to discuss potential collaborations and explore avenues for further enhancing our support to the community. Mr. Nick Thomas-Symonds offered valuable insights and suggestions, which we will carefully consider as we continue to evolve and grow.”
Nick Thomas-Symonds, Torfaen MP, said: “I was delighted to visit Gateway Credit Union in Pontypool to hear of the fantastic work they do to support people across Torfaen. Their services continue to be a lifeline for people during the cost of living crisis. I would encourage anyone that may be struggling to contact their local credit union, which can provide access to fair and affordable credit.”
