Councillors on Cwmbran Community Council’s grants to voluntary organisations committee have given out grants totaling over £37,000 since April last year.
Leading up to last week’s latest committee meeting they had shared £37,194.08 during 2023/24. Successful grant applications included:
- Henllys Scouts Troop- new camping equipment: £1,350
- United Response- community garden and allotment in Oakfield: £3,800
- Coronation Grants for schools- £3,300 (total)
- Friends of Pontnewydd Park- play equipment: £7,000
- Llantarnam Dance Club- music equipment / hall hire: £1,500
- Able- new digital suite: £3,695.35
At the latest meeting, Cwmbran & District Pipes & Drums was awarded £1,468 and Torfaen Tigers Rugby League team was awarded £3,000. The council clerk was asked to get more information about applications from Torfaen Netball Club and the Congress Youth Theatre.
Two grant applications have been unsuccessful so far during the financial year and these were:
- £10,000 for a new irrigation system at Pontnewydd Bowls Club.
- £3,000 for a new play are at Our Lady of the Angels RC School.
