People aged 50 and over are invited to a new event in Henllys to bring people together to chat and socialise.
The Afternoon Tea has been organised and funded by Henlly Community Council. Cllr Valerie Waters told Cwmbran Life that they want to get people out of their homes and meeting in the community. The plans are then to see how the group wants to take it forward and maybe have speakers in or other activities: “We consulted with Costar in Fairwater. They’ve been excellent and very helpful, giving us advice and tips on how to get this organised. We are also looking for volunteers who can meet, greet, talk, communicate, make tea, and do a bit of washing up.” She said this would be useful for people applying for university or to add to their CV for job applications.
Cllr Brenda Everett said: “It’s just somewhere to go like an afternoon-coffee morning for want of a better description. I’ve just made contact with someone who may be able to teach some exercises. Once we get a group of people we want them to decide what they want. It needs to be organic and grow.”
The first afternoon tea is on Friday 29 September from 2pm to 4pm in Henllys Village Hall and then it will be fortnightly.
