Developers today shared their proposals for a new bridge across the canal in Cwmbran.
Asbris Planning held an exhibition at Mount Pleasant Hall this afternoon from 2pm-7pm. Members of the public attended to see the proposals and give their views and comments before a planning application is submitted to Torfaen Council in April/ May.
The South Sebastol development, Edlogan Wharf, is made up of several hundred homes on both sides of the canal but there is only one bridge over the waterway. The new bridge would be located to land north of Five Locks Close and be used to complete a circular road around the estate.
An information board at today’s event said that if the plan is approved, Taylor Wimpey would aim to start in Autumn 2023 and it would take about 18 months. During this time boats would be unable to reach the basin at Five Locks and a section of the towpath would be blocked to the public.
Earlier this week a spokesperson for Taylor Wimpey said: “We remain fully committed to engaging positively with the local community and this event will help to inform our proposals before we present our plans to Torfaen County Borough Council.”
