Cwmbran Community Council has given a football club in the town £10,000 towards new floodlights.
Cwmbran Celtic FC play at the Avondale Motor Park Arena, on Henllys Way.
Barrie Desmond, the club’s chair, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Cwmbran Community Council for their generous £10,000 grant, which is a significant contribution to our efforts in raising £80,000 for the floodlight project.
“This support reflects the council’s commitment to the local community and the important role our club plays within it.
“This in our 100th year of existence. The grant is critical to our fundraising campaign, helping us take a big step towards promoting health and wellbeing through football, ensuring we can continue to offer opportunities for the people of Cwmbran and area to stay active and engaged.”
Cllr Chris Morgan, chair of Cwmbran Community Council, expressed the council’s enthusiasm for the project: “This investment not only strengthens the club’s ability to expand its activities and welcome more local participation, but also supports the growth of girls’ and women’s football at the venue.
“It’s particularly fitting that in this year of Cwmbran Celtic’s centenary and 75 years of Cwmbran as a New Town, this project will ensure a bright future for the club and its community.”
Cllr Kebba Manneh, chair of the regeneration and major grants committee, said: “As the first award by our Committee, this grant aligns with our mission to empower local organisations to secure larger funding streams. It’s a key step in driving infrastructure improvements and enhancing community activities in Cwmbran.”
