Bruchsal was twinned with Cwmbran 45 years ago. On Saturday, Cwmbran-based choir Harmonize performed in a joint concert with the Bruchsal Police Choir at Mount Pleasant Hall in Pontnewydd.

And on Sunday in Gwent Square, a plaque was unveiled to commemorate 75 years of Cwmbran as a New Town, 50 years of Bruchsal as a Stadt, and 45 years of twinning between the towns.

The photos in this story were taken at Sunday’s event in Gwent Square in the town centre.

The plaque was unveiled by Cornelia Petzold-Schick, the Oberbürgermeisterin of Bruchsal, Cllr Chris Morgan, chair of Cwmbran Community Council, and Cllr Stewart Matthews, chair of Croesyceiliog and Llanyrafon Community Council.

Last week Cllr Morgan said he was looking forward to a “busy and interesting weekend of events and it’s wonderful to share the celebrations with residents, guests and our partners from Bruchsal.”

Nick Thomas-Symonds, Torfaen MP said: “I’m delighted to join the commemoration of 75 Years of Cwmbran as a New Town, as well as 45 Years of Twinning with Bruschal. Thank you to Oberbürgermeisterin Cornelia Petzold-Schick and the Bruchsal Police Choir for joining the ceremony. I’m incredibly proud to represent Cwmbran.

“It has a rich history, vibrant communities, and everyone who has lived here past and present has contributed to a wonderful town.”

Oberbürgermeisterin Cornelia Petzold-Schick said: “We want to thank you all who were involved for renewing this wonderful partnership in such a short time. From my heart, it’s a renewing and a fresh start.”

Duet Watkins and Oliver played music before and after the event on Sunday.
