The annual Ponthir Bonfire Night held by the Ponthir Sports and Community Club was back with a bang this year with a sparkling show including classics such as Catherine wheels, rockets, roman candles and fountains which lasted for around half an hour.

This impressive selection was furthered by the blazing bonfire to the left of the fireworks which was lit well into the night.  A wide array of food and drink was also on offer with staples such as hot dogs and burgers mingling with choices of drinks for all the family.

The entertainment was also made further family friendly with the optional purchases of glow-in-the-dark lights which made for a safer but no less fun substitute for the loved sparklers.

Prices for the event also seem remarkably fair considering the lengthy firework display and the food and drink options with a £6 adult entry fee and £4 for children which will go to aid the community sports club with its continued improvements in the clubhouse, football and cricket pitches.

Following the success of this event as highlighted by a high turnout, other events are scheduled for the community hub:

  • Saturday 16 November:  Winter Festival 11am-2pm and Open Mic and Karaoke Fundraiser 7pm to late.
  • Sunday 24 November: Annual Christmas Fayre 2pm-5pm (free entry)
  • Saturday 7 December: Children’s Christmas Party 11am – 11pm (£10 entry fee)
  • Friday 13 December:Wreath making Workshop 7pm-9pm (£55)
  • Friday 20th December: 80s Style Christmas Party 6pm to close (£10 entry fee)

These events help the community flourish by bringing in money which is put back into it, as well as creating a strong sense of togetherness.
