Four of the most respected historians in South Wales are in Cwmbran this month talking about their individual field of expertise. The ‘Meet the Historians’ talk is at 7pm on Thursday 17 January in the Congress Theatre. Entry is free.
Ian Daniels, historical interpreter, will be speaking about Gwent’s Iron Age tribal people, the Silures.
Dr Maddie Gray will be speaking about death and remembrance in Gwent (often the only record we have of people and how they actually lived).
Les James, a community history activist, is an expert on Chartism and the struggle for democracy in Gwent and elsewhere. He will be revealing his new ground breaking research regarding John Frost, Zephaniah Williams and William Jones’ transportation to Australia after the armed rising in 1839 in Newport.
Gary Tuson, County Archivist, will be talking about historic records, how to access them and use them. He will also be talking about digitalisation and how this can be achieved by the public participating in the scanning documents process.
