dozens of bags of food ready to be collected
Tasty Not Wasty is based in Llanyrafon Methodist Church

Around 200 people in Torfaen will get a Christmas food parcel this evening thanks to volunteers at Tasty Not Wasty in Croesyceiliog and local supermarkets.

Volunteers at Tasty Not Wasty work throughout the year helping to reduce food waste by distributing surplus food. They give donations away and make meals with ingredients at their cafe.

Volunteers visited shops to collect unsold food earlier this evening and brought the items to the base in Llanyrafon Methodist Church.

Teams of people then shared the donations into bags to give a good selection of meals for each person who wanted one.

Then groups of bags were taken to centres across the area including Thornhill Community Centre and Cwmbran Centre for Young People.

Sabrina Cresswell, from Tasty Not Wasty, said: “It’s all gone really well. All of the volunteers were split into different groups. Some were doing chilled, some were doing bread, and some were doing veg.

“They all got organised and just sent them out so I have to send a load of people a text now [to say their bag is ready].

“We had about 40 helpers so it’s good. Thank you to all of the stores. We had calls from Iceland in Pontypool, Aldi in Cwmbran, Lidl in Cwmbran, Coop in Cwmbran, Iceland Spytty, Tesco Pontypool and yes, they were all fantastic in their donations and their coordination with the team. It was all good.”
