The Popham Kidney Support fundraiser at the Halfway pub in Old Cwmbran on Sunday 25 May became one of those events where story after story came my way.
A man walked up to me and said the charity had helped him – as I knew the day was organised following its support for local teenager Chloe Phillips, I had to find out more.
Jack Jones, now lives in Blaenavon but is from Cwmbran. He told me: “I came today to show my support for a charity that does good things for good people.
“They helped me last year, and they don’t get the recognition they deserve.
“They helped me with counseling when things got rough. They played a blinder.
“They helped me and my partner get a more suitable property so I could ‘dialyse’ and do everything I needed to do in a good environment.
“I was diagnosed with a kidney issue at 12. I went through treatment throughout the year – July 23 was when it all came crashing back down wth kidney failure.
“I done nine months of dialysis from January 24 and in September, my mum gave me a kidney, and it’s all been on the upwards from there, so we’re hoping to keep it the same way.”
