“We are buzzing and over the moon. It’s been a brilliant experience, amazing courses to play – and the organisers of International Golf Pairs Wales have been brilliant and so supportive.”
Those were the words from Torfaen teenagers Toby Green, 19, and Taylor Price, 18, a short while ago (on Thursday 9 October) from the Sun City Golf Club in South Africa – just after they won what is “arguably the World’s largest amateur pairs golf competition”.
The pair had no idea when they turned up at Pontypool Golf Club in June to take part in a local heat of the International Pairs Golf Tournament, where this adventure would take them.
After winning in Pontypool, they then won the Welsh final at the Vale Golf Course in August – and with it the all-expenses paid trip to South Africa to represent Wales in the World Final of the tournament.
Twenty-seven countries took part in the finals.
The friends have been interviewed on South African TV to talk about their brilliant win.
The International Pairs World Final was played as a Better Ball Stableford 2-person team format over two days of 18 Holes per day. (36 Holes total).
