Cwmbran was built on industry – and the people who worked in those factories, workshops and offices shaped the town we know today.
Now Torfaen Museum is inviting former workers to help bring that history alive for future generations.
Becky, the museum’s Education and Outreach Officer, is leading a new project focused on collecting oral histories from people who lived and worked in Cwmbran’s industries. These stories will become part of the museum’s archive and may feature in a future exhibition celebrating the town’s industrial heritage.
“We have had some great ones so far from people who have worked in Guest, Keen and Nettlefolds, Girlings and Burton’s.” Becky said. “It is really nice to hear some first hand accounts, it makes it come alive. I am still on the lookout for anyone who has worked in Nimbus, Saunders Valve etc but anyone who may have interesting stories to share about living and working in Cwmbran who may be interested in chatting about their experiences.
“The plan is to compile this information for a possible exhibition celebrating Cwmbran’s industrial heritage.”
But it’s not just about factory floors. If you have stories about living in Cwmbran during its industrial years, memories of family members who worked in these places, or experiences of how the town changed, Becky would love to hear from you.
