Auditions for a stage production of the Disney hit Camp Rock are being held in Cwmbran. The musical is being put on by iShine Performing Arts which is run by two women who grew up in Cwmbran.
Samantha McGown and Susannah Spring are inviting young people aged ten to 18 along to Llanyrafon Social Club on 1 February at 12.30pm.
Samantha, who still lives in the town, said: “iShine Performing Arts is a musical theatre group set up by myself Samantha McGowan and my long time friend Susannah Spring. We both grew up in Cwmbran, and lived in Thornhill as teens. I currently live in Fairwater, Cwmbran and Susannah now lives in Cardiff.
“We are looking for young talent from Cwmbran and the local community to take part in our production of Camp Rock the Musical. We invite 10-19 year olds to an audition on 1 February at 12.30pm in Llanyrafon Social Club (NP44 8HT- Just off Llanfrechfa Way). More information can be found on our web site ishinepa.co.uk or we can be contacted by email at [email protected].”
Rehearsals will be held at the same venue every Saturday during school terms.
“As well as offering our members the chance to perform on stage at a local theatre we are also committed to providing memories, experiences and opportunities outside of the group. For instance we recently took our Cardiff group to London to see Seussical the Musical (a show which they will be performing in May) where they were lucky enough to meet the cast after their performance and had the chance to ask them questions.
“We also have acting, singing and dance workshops lined up with professionals and will be booking some time in recording studios, theatre and studio tours. We also have general social events where the children can meet members from other iShine groups and share their experiences.
“Our Cardiff division is currently rehearsing for Seussical the Musical and for those people that didn’t get to see the show while it was on in the West End during December they can see our production of it in the Congress Theatre in May.
Our Cardiff production team consists of Kris Crowley, a performing arts teacher at St David’s College and Chris Bond, a fourth year music student form RWCMD. I am proud to say that they and our members are doing a mighty fine job and the end result will be spectacular. Definitely a show not to be missed.
“We are really excited to be bringing iShine Performing Arts to our home town and we are looking forward to meeting some of the talented local children.”
Dates for the show have been booked at two venues so where the show will perform will depend on how quickly it is cast but it will be end of June or early July.
