Two Cwmbran cygnets have been moved to Barry after being attacked by their parents. Swan experts told Cwmbran Life that this is “their way of telling them it was time to ‘leave home’.”
Volunteers from Swan Rescue South Wales were told there was a problem at Cwmbran Boating Lake and found a female cygnet on her own. They knew the parents would be back soon so captured the cygnet.
Next stop was Llantarnam Ponds where the swan family first live. The parents were there along with another cygnet so they also captured this female.
Move from Cwmbran to Barry
A spokewoman for Swan Rescue South Wales said: “We discussed where the best place would be to release these young swans. There are several areas we use where there are flocks of swans fed by local people who would let us know if there was a problem. Having weighed up all the pros and cons we eventually we decided on the Knap Lake in Barry.”
