The mum of Shae Button, the three year-old Cwmbran boy who died from meningitis in April, has been sent a letter asking her to remove the toys placed around his memorial at Llwyncelyn Cemetery in Hollybush.
Torfaen Council posted the letter earlier this week to Connie Button at her home in Northville.
Connie said: “I’ve had a letter saying I need to remove things off there. It is disgusting. I had it in the post and it says what I am and not allowed and that I have to remove some of my stuff before 30 May or they will take if off themselves.
“Going up to see him and taking gifts and making it look beautiful and colourful is helping me as it’s the only place I can go to be with him and it’s a place to grieve.
“He’s only been gone just five weeks and they are already sending me out letters. It makes me so angry that they can even think of removing things off there.”
Torfaen Council apologised today.
Christina Harrhy, the chief officer for neighbourhood services , said: “On behalf of the department, I offer my unreserved apology to the family for this administrative error. We will be contacting them directly to apologise for the insensitivity.”
Friends of Connie set up a petition after hearing about the letter.
