The Welsh Musical Theatre Orchestra will be visiting the Congress Theatre on Sunday 14 June as part of their Spring Tour ‘Shows and Soundtracks’.

Conductor Andrew Hopkins said: “For me, it’s about giving people opportunities. The opportunity for local people to go to their local venue and see West End singers backed by a full professional orchestra at prices that won’t break the bank. The opportunity for exceptional, local, amateur singers to sing alongside the professionals. The opportunity for music students to play alongside industry professionals. I’m so thrilled that we can do all those things without compromising the quality of the performances we put on.”

Cwmbran man to sing ‘Bring Him Home’

One of the local singers for Cwmbran is Miles Harding, who will be singing ‘Bring Him Home’ from Les Miserables.

He said: “It’s such an iconic song, so as part of my preparation for the concert, WMTO organised for me to go to London and have a masterclass with Simon Shorten, who understudies the role of Jean Valjean in the West End. I was really nervous about it, but he taught me loads about the acting and how to sing the song really honestly. Then he took me on a backstage tour of the Queen’s Theatre before I watched the evening performance of the show, which was amazing!”

Also joining Miles in Cwmbran are local singers Alex Marshall, Lucy Phillips and Chelsea Viveash, alongside West End singers Katy Treharne and Zeph Gould. They will be performing hits from musicals like ‘Chicago’, ‘Chess’, ‘Me and My Girl’ and ‘Oliver’.
