A support group for parents of children with diabetes is looking for new members. Gwent Dia-Beat-Ing-It meet on the third Wednesday of every month at Malpas Community Centre (NP20 6WG) from 7pm to 8.30pm.
Cwmbran mum Kate Edwards helped set up the group with two friends Vicki Allcock and Vicki Daunter and the help of Diabetes UK. Her two youngest children have type one diabetes.
They offer support in a friendly and informal setting where parents can ask each other questions and queries about the condition.

World Diabetes Day
It is World Diabetes Awareness Month in November with World Diabetes Day on Saturday 14 November. Diabetes UK want parents to check of the 4 T’s– symptoms that could mean you child has type 1 diabetes.
-Toilet- Is your child going to toilet a lot?
-Thirsty- Does your child have increased thirst?
-Tired- Is your child more tired than usual?
-Thinner- Has your child lost weight?
These could be signs your child has Type 1 diabetes. If not diagnosed early enough, Type 1 diabetes can be fatal. Don’t delay- if your child is experiencing any of the 4Ts, visit your doctor immediately for a test.
