Cwmbran Male Choir is starting a free open night so members of the public can watch them rehearse for their regular concerts and learn more about them. It’s hoped that the sessions will encourage new members  to join.

I went along to watch them rehearse and chat to committee members Malcolm and Clive. Watch this video and hear the choir perform My Lord What A Morning.

New members are always welcome

Malcolm and Clive are a friendly pair and are really keen to see new members join. Clive has been a member for 35 years and told me “I wouldn’t know what to do if I didn’t have a choir with all the concerts we do. It’s my life.”

The social side for members is fantastic and the choir member have performed all over the UK and Europe. Malcolm said the health benefits are incredible. It was this quote from Malcolm which really stuck in my mind after I left the hall:

The musical director will sit you in a certain place and you’re away and you’ve got yourself 36 new friends.

Malcolm Gough, concert secretary

So if you know someone who should join or you fancy it yourself go along to the Salvation Army Hall in Old Cwmbran on a Monday or Thursday at 7.30pm. You will enjoy a warm welcome.

Watch them rehearse

Go and watch them on the last Thursday of the month. Anyone can sit at the back and enjoy what is simply a free concert. Go along at 7.30pm. The practice ends at 9.15pm and there is a tea/ coffee break at the interval.
