A Cwmbran firefighter is going to peddle up and down one of the UK’s most challenging hills as many times and possible until he quits.
Allen Cameron is doing the personal challenge to raise money for Myeloma UK– a cancer that is affecting his mum.
The Tumble is the name of the route that leads from Llanfoist to Blaenavon on the edge of the Blorenge.
The Tumble has an average gradient of 8%
The route he is cycling is 5.2km long,at an average gradient of 8% with the steepest section at 15%. It has been named as one of the top five best scenic bike rides in Wales and in 2014 Stage 3 of the Tour of Britain finished at the summit.
Allen said: “I’ll be going up and down as many times as possible until I quit. Basically I will peddling until I pop and can physically do no more. It’s about 30 minutes to get up the hill and ten minutes to get back to the start. I’ve got no idea how many times that will be before I stop but I will be proud of my ‘failure’ as I will have helped raise money for a fantastic cause.”
He is starting his first Tumble climb at 12.01am on Sunday 19 June.
