Cwmbran Celtic co-manager Sam Lewis said last Tuesday’s derby match with Cwmbran Town was a “fantastic occasion” and showcased “the amount of people that support local football in Cwmbran”.
His side came away 3-0 winners in the first fixture between the sides for 16 years.
Lewis, who shares the manager’s role with Steven Muir, told Cwmbran Life he was happy with the first half ,which ended goalless. During half-time he told his side to: “…keep doing what we’re doing, really. I think every team is going to have spells in the game. They had a spell in the first half, and I knew ours would come.
“So just push up a little bit higher. I felt we were a little bit deep in the first half. Once we executed that, the goals came from that then.”
“So yes, a positive result.”
The 3-0 win put smiles on the faces of the players and supporters after being relegated from the Cymru South last season
Lewis said: “It’s been a tough pre-season, don’t get me wrong. We’ve lost a lot of players, we’ve recruited a lot, but I think that just shows what the club is about today, the fight in them, the determination, especially after last season as well, getting relegated was a very tough season.
“I couldn’t be prouder of them. It’s a long way to go this season; still 29 games to go, so nothing is done, but if that’s how they react, I can’t ask for much more from them.
“What a fantastic occasion. It showcases football in Cwmbran. It showcases the amount of people that support local football in Cwmbran, and that’s fantastic.”
