A fundraising appeal has been launched to support a 35‑year‑old Cwmbran mum who is facing cancer for the second time, four years after she was given the all‑clear.

Carrie Brown, a mother of two young boys, has stage four cancer and is now seeking specialist surgery that could give her more precious time with her children.

The Coed Eva resident wants life‑extending cancer treatment she can’t get on the NHS. The procedure, known as HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy), costs around £75,000 to be carried out privately.

Her family has set up a fundraising page in the hope that the community can help. The link is in the comments.

‘Rallying around’

I spoke to Carrie on Monday evening. She told me: “We’re lucky. We’ve got a really close family. Everyone is rallying around.”

Carrie was first diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer in 2022, undergoing two emergency surgeries, a stoma, five weeks in hospital and six months of chemotherapy.

She said: “After this, my scan results were NED (no evidence of disease) which, as anyone who has faced cancer knows is the best news ever! I thought ‘I can see my children grow up’. I then went on and carried on with my life.”

But in August 2025, she was admitted to hospital with severe pain. After weeks of tests, she received the devastating news that her cancer had returned and spread.

Doctors initially told her there were no surgical options, but one specialist surgeon agreed to operate, giving her more time.

She said: “All I could think about was my children, who are six and four. They are my entire world, and I couldn’t imagine not being here to watch them grow up.

“My family will tell you that all I ever wanted in life was to be a mother and a wife. My life is perfect. It’s everything I dreamed of and more.”

Velindre Cancer Centre

Carrie, who is undergoing chemotherapy every other Wednesday at Velindre in Cardiff, has been told her cancer is incurable. The HIPEC procedure offers the possibility of extending her life.

She said: “I’ve been told numerous times by my oncology team that my cancer is incurable. I understand that, but I want as much time with my children as possible. I’m not allowing this to take me without a fight. I will do anything to be here for my babies.”

Her family says any donation, no matter how small, will help them move closer to the total.

They are also asking people to share the appeal to reach as many people as possible.
