Work is underway to build a new £14m school in Cwmbran.
Maendy Primary School in Northville is being replaced with a new 420-pupil building, an increase of 89 places. The site will also have a Flying Start building with 30 nursery places, an increase of four.
Earlier this week Cwmbran Life posted a video showing construction work on the site. It led to a few readers commenting about an entrance being built off Cwmbran Drive.
Some thought it would become the new permanent entrance to the school. Earlier stories about the new school had pointed out that to avoid construction traffic driving through the Northville estate, a temporary entrance would be built off Cwmbran Drive.

Cwmbran Life asked the council to respond to readers’ queries.
A Torfaen Council highways spokesperson said: “The access onto Cwmbran Drive is a temporary works access into the school only.
“The access will be in place for the duration of the works within the school grounds, and once fully constructed, it will be to a standard that is safe for use by pedestrians accessing Cwmbran Drive.”
The path used by pedestrians will reopen as soon as work on the new entrance is complete.
In February, Twm Owen, local democracy reporter, wrote about planning permission being approved and concerns over increased traffic when the school opens to pupils.
The new building will be net zero carbon with two playgrounds, a forest school zone, play equipment and a grass sports pitch.
The site will have 60 parking bays and six “drop off” spaces and shelter for 39 bicycles, but it won’t be available until construction is completed which will take place as children learn in the existing buildings before they are demolished.
