A couple invited friends and family to a garden party in Cwmbran to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary.

Royston and Margaret Walkley had a party at Thistle Court Care Home, where Roy has lived since 2018.

Roy, a former painter and decorator, also served in the national service for two years in Malaysia.

Beyond his professional and military achievements, his passion for golf added an exciting dimension to his life. He was captain of Pontypool Golf Club in 1982 for a year and then went on to be president of the club for three more years.

The couple met at a dance in their hometown of Pontypool, then married in 1958 when Roy came home from his service. They have a daughter, two grandsons, and two great-grandsons, one of which they met for the first time on their special day at only two weeks old.
