three girls on a podium after an ice skating competition
Lily is the new Basic Novice Solo Ice Dance British Champion.

Congratulations to the new Basic Novice Solo Ice Dance British Champion.

Lily Grace Walding, a year nine Croesyceiliog School pupil, took gold last week in Sheffield.

Emma, her mum, said: “After her first skate on Tuesday morning in the fiesta tango she finished up in seventh place, then ended the day in a very close third place after a fantastic rhythm blues performance.

“It was all to skate for Wednesday with the top seven skaters so close in points. Lily gave it everything and held her nerve to finish as the British Champion 2025 with just 0.38 points between her and third place. I couldn’t sit still with the nerves and excitement of it all.

“She has been coached by Tracey Keeble for ten years and trains and represents Bristol Planet Ice Rink as well as GBR when competing internationally.

“Training carries on for Lily for her next free skating competition will be in May and then preparation for the next ice dance season will begin.

“Huge commitment is needed from her and everyone around her. A shoutout to my dad, Lily’s grandad Tony, who drives her to training often and travels around the country and Europe to support her every need. She wouldn’t have done half of this without his help this season.”
