Pupils at Croesyceiliog School invited Torfaen MP Nick Thomas-Symonds to see what they were doing as part of UK Parliament Week.
The event in November takes place to spread “the word about what Parliament is, what it does and how you can get involved. It’s a great way to find out new things about UK Parliament or be reminded of things you might’ve forgotten!” (see link for website).
Sam Dickinson, the school’s lead practitioner in English, said: “We were thrilled to welcome MP Nick Thomas-Symonds into our English department, lessons and school. He visited Mr Jones, Mrs Mahoney and my year nine class and observed a range of UK Parliament Week activities from virtual tours, to quizzes on Parliament.
“He then met with our School Senedd, Leadership Team, Criw Cymraeg and our debating team for a Q&A session.
“Questions from our pupils ranged from topics such as mental health, pay, cost of living crisis, relations with USA and Europe, quantitative easing, education investment, local area, void votes, inspiration and role models, to fuel prices and advice for those hoping to go into a career in politics.
“He also offered advice to our two year 11 students who are running for the [Welsh] Youth Parliament elections.”
