Cwmbran boxers win gold in Finland

Two boxers from Torfaen Warriors Boxing Club won gold medals at the Pirka Cup in Finland.

Dino Smith beat the Russian champion in the semi-finals before going on to win in yesterday’s final. The Russian’s record was 35 wins out of 50 bouts but he had trouble catching Dino who won 5-0

His clubmate Shane Thomas also won gold and was awarded ‘boxer of the tournament’.

Both boys, who are pupils at West Mon School, also won gold in last year’s tournament. They are the current Welsh boxing champions for their age and weight.

Three other boxers from Wales went on the trip. Levi Griffiths from Baglan ABC won gold, Conor McIntosh from Baglan ABC won silver, and Tyson Mochan from Blaenau Gwent won silver.
