A Cwmbran boxing club is starting a men’s mental health group in memory of a coach.
Torfaen Warriors ABC is starting “‘Kris’ Club, it’s time to talk” for anyone in the community to come along and chat in the gym. Dr Ray Monsell, a well-known figure in Welsh boxing and advocate for men’s mental health, will be at the monthly session.
The first one is on Wednesday 24 September from 7.45pm.
Kris May, 42, was a coach at the club and passed away in August 2025..
Simon Weaver, head coach at Torfaen Warriors ABC, said: “We want to start a new informal space in Cwmbran where men can come along and chat. Our doors will be open from 7.45pm for anyone to pop in for a hot drink, biscuit and chat about anything.
“Dr Monsell has been a huge support for amateur boxing in Wales for many years and was keen to get involved in this session.
“Men’s mental health is a big issue and we want to do what we can to show ‘it’s time to talk’ and make it as easy as possible for men to chat. We have the perfect space where people can pop in for any reason.”
Torfaen Warriors ABC’s gym is next to Cheeky Monkeys soft play centre on Fairwater Way in Cwmbram.
