Cwmbran Community Council’s annual primary school’s eco quiz was “really close” with ten teams competing to win.
It was held at the Congress Theatre on Thursday 1 February 2024.
The event was reviewed at last week’s community council’s events and community projects committee. It sees teams of pupils quizzed about topics like the environment and recycling.
Stephanie Clerk, council officer, told councillors “We’ve had really lovely feedback. Everyone really enjoyed it It’s one of our most popular events. The schools like it.”
She said it was “really close” with Maendy Primary School winning with 57 points but she added that the “majority” of the teams all had scores in the “50s”.
The runner-up was Llanryafon Primary School and Woodlands Community Primary School came third.
Cllr Leanne Lloyd-Tolman, Upper Cwmbran and Thornhill Ward, said: “It was an amazing event. Children were impeccably behaved and stood us in good stead in what we can achieve. We should be shouting about it from the rooftops.”
Cllr Chris Morgan, Lowlands & Avondale Ward, said: “It was lovely to see so many kids with so much enthusiasm, knowledgable as well. They were great. It shows they’re being taught really well, and being aware of the climate emergency. I was really impressed.”
