It’s described as the toughest cycling event in the UK.
Cwmbran fireman, Allen Cameron will start his Tumbleup4life challenge at 5am tomorrow and aims to keep climbing until 8pm and achieve the maximum 15 trips up the Tumble.
The climb in aid of Cancer Research UK starts in Llanfoist at 54 metres and the top of the Blorenge is reached 6km later at the altitude of 512 metres. Cycling the Tumble 15 times in a day adds up to a phenomenal 6,870 metres and average over 10% in gradient.
Each climb and descent in total is around nine miles long and so Allen could cycle 135 miles.
Allen said: “When I’m out for a ride I’m usually chuffed to just get up the Tumble but we all have people close to us who have been affected by Cancer and know this is nothing compared to the daily challenges that people with Cancer have to overcome everyday.”
In the first two TumbleUp4Life events only two riders succeeded in climbing 15 times in one day.
Ex-Royal Marine Allen (pictured above in his Royal Marine cycle top) hopes is raising money for Cancer Research UK.

On May 3rd 2014 the “iron mountain” of South Wales, The Tumble, will be the site for an Olympian challenge! Cyclists will attempt to reach the summit as many times as possible in a single day to replicate the daily challenges a cancer patient faces. The aim is to raise a record amount of funds for Cancer Research UK. May I take this opportunity to wish every cyclist good luck with their own personal journey and much success with their fund raising!
