The thought of training with Amir Khan and Nathan Cleverly would scare most people from entering a competition where that was the prize. But Marcus Warner from Cwmbran was over the moon at winning this knockout prize from Maximuscle.
He won the training session with the two top British boxers as part of Maximuscle’s Protein Project.
Last Friday he headed up to Bolton with his kitbag and gloves.
The 30-year-old said: “The morning consisted of training sessions with coaches from Amir’s ‘Gloves Gym‘. We did the park run workouts that the boxers do each week. I managed to get into the top group and had to race the boxers at the end – which I won.
“We then had talks from Maximuscle about nutrition followed by lunch and a Q&A with the Protein Project finalists.
“In the the afternoon we went to the gym for technical boxing sessions with Nathan and Amir. I was able to chat with Nathan a fair amount as we have mutual friends and he obviously knew the two boxing gyms I have trained at in Cwmbran.
“The day ended with a Q&A with Nathan and Amir.
“I had a fantastic day up in Bolton and was an experience I will never forget. I have had the benefit of doing a bit of training in Torfaen Warriors Gym in Cwmbran with Simon Weaver and it stood me in good stead for the training we did. Meeting Amir Khan and Nathan Cleverly was obviously the highlight, but it was good to meet the other guys who won the competition and learn about their experiences. It will stay in my memory a long time.”
