The 1st Pontnewydd Scouts group in Cwmbran started in 1910. Their Facebook page says this makes them the oldest group in Torfaen.

Cubs, beavers and scouts have been meeting every week in their hall on Fields Avenue since 1979.

The hall was closed for around two years because of Covid and this saw their membership drop. A couple of months ago they suffered a break-in. A few people suggested they should hold a ‘maintenance day’ where members, leaders and volunteers bring paint brushes, they hire a skip from GD Environmental, and spend the day painting and giving their hall a major clear-out.

One of the members was on BBQ duty to keep every fed and watered.

Cwmbran Life went along to chat to some of the volunteers, take some photos and record a Facebook Live.
