Cwmbran teenager gets PB representing Wales at the Commonwealth Games

Cwmbran teenager Meghan Willis, broke a personal best as she made her Commonwealth Games debut for Wales.

The 14-year-old Henllys resident swam for the Team Wales paralympic swim team in the 200m individual medley SM10 final last night at Sandwell Aquatics Centre. She came seventh in 2min 44.52 seconds taking 3.6 seconds off her previous personal best time of 2min 48.12 seconds.

Suzanne, her mum, said: “She is loving every minute of the whole experience from the kit fitting, to the athletes’ village to meeting athletes from around the world and has had so much support from the Swim Wales team, Torfaen Dolphins and friends and family. In her words she’s ‘buzzing’.

“We were so proud seeing her walk out and a little emotional to see her smiling face bless her! To come out to that much noise in the crowd and perform her race like she did was just awesome. She held herself together so well on a massive international stage.”

Jasmine Greenwood from Australia took gold in 2min 33.29 secs.
