A Cwmbran teenager has just returned from Scotland after playing for Wales’ under 16s golf team.
GreenMeadow Junior Golfer, James Palfrey, was told shortly after his 14th birthday in February that he had been selected to play for his country.
He took part in a tournament held at Belleisle Golf club in Ayr from 3 to 5 April.
A spokesperson for Greenmeadow Golf Club said: “James was part of a young Welsh team made up of six boys and four girls from all corners of Wales. They were scheduled to play foursomes and singles matches against Scotland, Ireland, and the Netherlands over a three-day period.
“James came up against some of the best junior golfers around. He won his foursomes match, halved his first singles, and lost his third and fourth matches. Unfortunately, he didn’t get to play matches five and six due to poor weather conditions.
“This was a huge accomplishment for James, being only the second player to be picked from GreenMeadow Golf Club to represent Wales and spending his first time away from his parents.
“James explained that he loved the whole experience, traveling and staying with the team, the preparation, learning from the Welsh Coach Gareth James. But most of all, he loved wearing the Dragon whilst playing the game he loves.”
