A Cwmbran woman won two titles at the British Kyokushinkai Karate open championships.

Hayley-Beth Rowlands took part in the 60kg lightweight category. She’s been runner-up in this category for the last two years.

But 2024 was her year and she was crowned the champion. The tournament attracts competitors from around the world.

It also incorporated the ‘Cup of Europe’ tournament, and Hayley-Beth picked up this title making her a five-time European champion.

She was also awarded the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Sword for being the highest-placed British fighter.

Sempai Hayley, a second Dan, teaches at Cwmbran Kyokushin Karate Club and runs sessions at karate seminars across the UK and Europe.

The tournament was held at the K2 leisure centre in Crawley, Sussex.
