Cwmbran man Danny Price appeared in episode six of the current series of First Dates.

The 33-year-old who lives in Greenmeadow and works in a mental health unit that helps vulnerable adults with mental health and autism, said: “I went live on Facebook discussing how hard it is to date in this day and age. The video went crazy. Everyone found it hilarious when I was discussing funny disastrous dates. Some you wouldn’t believe happened.”

That led to an application to go on the show.

“I was shocked. Out of 10’s of thousands who applied, I was shocked they’d picked me.” Fans of the show love the first part of the date where one of the ‘dates’ is waiting at the bar. What did Danny feel like at that moment?

“I wasn’t nervous. I sweated as entering but that was mainly because there are 100s of lights on you. I knew he wasn’t for me but it was a pleasant date. He hated dogs and Christmas. Those are the most important things to me. So I knew. Plus he hadn’t long come out so he wanted to party which is fine. He has a journey to go on before he would settle.”

“The food and drink was amazing. It’s a 5-star restaurant when the shows not using it.” The show is filmed in the Paternoster Chop House.

“I live in Cwmbran but it’s near Cardiff”

 So the bill…

“We don’t have to split the bill at all. It’s down to the people. We split the bill as I knew he wasn’t for me so I found it the honest thing to do and fair. Who pays on a gay date right? It’s a hard situation.”

Penguins…tell me about penguins

“Penguins are instantly attracted to each other and they really do mate for life. I only wish humans did the same.” Danny’s quote on the show led to a flurry of tweets.

Did anything funny happen during the filming?

“Yes. While I was actually on the date one of the crew recognised me off social media as I have an interior design page. While I was eating my phone was constantly buzzing from them liking and adding my Instagram. So I had to go to the toilet and turn my phone off ha ha.

“I’ve had a few radio interviews and I find it bizarre how many of the public come and say hello or ‘I hope you find your penguin’ while passing me in a supermarket. I’ve had no negative responses. It has all been lovely. I never went on the show to get media coverage or attention. I love the show and I am honoured to be included as a contestant. Life is pretty much back to normal.”
