John Swain, an 86-year-old former lorry driver from Cwmbran, passed away in December.
He will be taken to Gwent Crematorium next week not in a hearse, but on the back of a flatbed lorry. His family has planned a route that will stop or pass houses where he used to live or places in Cwmbran that had a special place in his heart.
Rob Swain, one of John’s sons, runs RJS Recovery. He told Cwmbran Life: “When I started out about 20 years ago I said to my dad, ‘when you go, you’ll go on one of my trucks’ and he said ‘yes!'”
The convoy will leave the Olive Tree in Croesyceiliog at 1.20pm on Wednesday 8 January. It will go towards the town centre past the police station and up Springvale. It will turn left onto Greenmeadow Way and past Pembrey Path before turning right down Blenheim Road and right onto Henllys Way.
The vehicles will pause at the entrance to Tillsland before heading towards Llwyncelyn Cemetery in Hollybush. It won’t stop but will then turn left towards Oakfield and past the Flower Gardens. From there the family will head for the service at 2pm in Gwent Crematorium.
The wake will be held in the Olive Tree.
