Five Cwmbran primary schools compete in football tournament

A Cwmbran teacher hopes to start up a football league in September for primary schools whose pupils will go to Cwmbran High School.

Lee Gwilliam, a teacher at Coed Eva Community Primary School, organised a tournament this week that saw teams from five schools take part-  Coed Eva, Blenheim, Nant Celyn, Geenmeadow and Woodlands.

It was such a success that he hopes to start a league in the new term so players can meet and compete against each other before they become classmates at Cwmbran High School.

He said: “The day went amazing even with the rain. The children showed excellent skills, goals and fairness.

“Each team played each other twice and the overall winner was Coed Eva wining six and drawing one. This is the start of a new thing we are doing with the cluster schools.

“I’m starting up a league between the cluster schools starting in September where we all play each other twice during the year and the top two at the end will play in a final. There will be a cluster shield for the winners and medals.”
