Gerald Sims took his daughters to swimming lessons with Cwmbran Otters in 1986. It wasn’t long before he was helping to set up the lane ropes before training sessions. Thirty-two years later he is still at the heart of the club as head coach and honorary treasurer.
Gerald was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008 but within two weeks he was back at the poolside “shouting out the orders.” His prostate was removed on 13 February 2008 and during this poolside video interview the 64-year-old volunteer says how the club has kept him ‘young’.
