Grant to netball club, park auction update and new defibrillator: Update from Henllys Community Council

Community councillors discussed a number of issues at their latest monthly meeting in the village hall.

Play Park

The mystery over the park between Tegfan Court and Henllys Way which suddenly appeared on an auction website in September 2022 is still ongoing. It was withdrawn from sale following intervention by the community council and county council but its future is still not clear. Dave Leech, Torfaen Council’s strategic director for adults and communities, told councillors the receivers had told them they were still “acting in the best interest of our clients.” He said the the council’s asset management team would be talking to them and will update the council clerk once they have more information.

Grants

Councillors approved a £150 grant to both Cwmbran Netball Club and Cerebral Palsy Cymru.

Daffodils

They have 250 tenby daffodil bulbs ready for planting on verges in the ward over the next month.

Defibrillator

Councillors are looking to get one or maybe two extra defibrillators to place in new locations in the ward, in addition to the one at the village hall.

Afternoon tea

Councillors have organised an afternoon tea to bring the over 50s community together to socialise. It will be fortnightly and the first one is in the village hall on Friday 29 September from 2pm to 4pm in Henllys Village Hall. They hope to attract volunteers to support and will talk to people who attend about how they would like to see it develop.

Councillors also heard from residents worried about the speed and volume of traffic in the lanes to Rogerstone.
