Josh Green’s CV shows how hard he is prepared to work to make it as a actor. I met the former Fairwater High School pupil for a chat in the Dorallt pub where he works part-time.

It was on a quiet Sunday night that I found out that the man who just poured me a pint of Doom Bar was about to appear on the TV in the corner of the bar.

A mate told me that Josh was about to walk into the next scene in BBC1’s The Crimson Field so I kept an eye on the screen waiting for his scene.

Cwmbran Life loves quirky stories and this one hit the spot so I got his phone number when I returned to the bar for my second pint.

Why does Josh Green loves acting?

“You wake up and you do not know who you are going to be. You take the script and make it your own. I love it. I’ve done a fair bit of period work which I enjoy. I’d love to try all areas of acting. I’d like to do stunts, like hang from things or fire scenes.

“When I’m on set I feel like a completely different person. So say for example I’m in my car and on my way to filming just listening to my radio feeling normal . And then when I get on set I feel all different inside, like a buzz. It makes me feel at home, where I want to be.

“I want to do big films. I think everyone says this, it’s a cliche, but I want to go to Hollywood and I’ve noticed lately that a lot of big films have been done in Atlanta, not just LA.

“It’s so difficult trying to work your way up from being an extra. Most people start off with drama school but I just wanted to dive straight in. I definitely want to go to drama school. I’m hoping to get into Royal Welsh College of Music And Drama in 2015.

“So many times you hit a brick wall but you’ve got to smash through it. It took me years to get with Mark Jermin Management as I really wanted to be represented by him. He first told me I needed more experience so I went away and spent time doing that. I went back and he asked me if I was ready to work hard for it and I said ‘yes’ so I auditioned for him and he took me on.

“Working at the Dorallt has definitely helped build my confidence. I was shy when I started here years ago. I would recommend bar or restaurant work for anyone who is shy.”

Josh first got on stage at school

“I did drama in Fairwater where I had an amazing teacher called Gary Dann. He took us to Shakespeare Schools Festival where I played Flute in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. That went down really well. I had good feedback from a West End director who was watching and he wrote a letter. That gave me a boost.

“I left school in 2007 and I saw an advert for Skins. I’m a massive fan of Skins. I applied and thought there will be 1000s wanting to do that. They contacted me and I was given a sheet to sign off what I was willing to do, things like kiss on screen or get naked. I said ‘I’ll do it all’ as I want to make it as an actor. I want to get noticed haha.

“I got naked and did a sex scene with a girl. Imagine a Skins party. I had to do all of that.

“After that I started to do music videos. I did one for Yolanda Be Cool, an Australian DJ, where I’m a trumpet player. I did Le Bump. And then I did Bassline Junkie for Dizzee Rascal. I played a young character in a bus stop who says no to drugs.

“I did a video for Ellie Goulding, Burn. That was amazing. Everything she does is epic. She’s doing so well for herself. It was awesome to be part of Burn.”

Josh appears throughout this Loveable Rogues video where he is in the zebra outfit at the house party.

“Then I did the Crimson Field which is on BBC1 now where again I was getting up to mischief. I get caught in a fight. Hermione Norris comes in and she stops it all.

“I played a Bostonian in New Worlds with Freya Mavor and Joe Dempsie. I had three or four lines in that.

“I’ve just done Downton Abbey. I had a small role in that which was amazing. Everyone was really nice.

“I’ve got my latest film coming really soon. That’s called Jump School. I play a young naive shoulder who is taken under the wing of Lance Corporal George Dewhurst played by Nico Dowsell, who is a really good up and coming Welsh actor.

Here is a trailer for Jump School.

“Parts of that were filmed in Talywain by the old viaduct, Blaenavon and in Swansea. I also had a role in a feature film called Suburbs and I play a character called Mark.

“I was in an episode of Doctor Who (The Rings of Akhaten).  Matt Smith was playing the Doctor. It was where him and Jenna Coleman who plays Clara Oswald land on this planet. It’s a bit like the market scene in Star Wars. She comes running out of the Tardis and bumps into me and I’m like ‘wo wo’. My character is a bit scared of her as well. The costume was boiling to wear. It looked like my brain was hanging out. Millennium FX are amazing.

“I’ve just done a TV advert for Arriva Trains Wales against antisocial behaviour. I’m on the train having a row with my girlfriend and she slaps me, then we get thrown off by the police.”
