Nour is the community champion for Morrisons Cwmbran

Nour is the community champion at Morrisons in Cwmbran. Did you know that last year over 200 organisations were able to use the store to raise money for good causes?

Nope, neither did I until I sat down with her for a coffee and a chat last Saturday morning.

She’s keen for her role to be more widely known in the area and how people can approach her for support.

She said: “Our customers are really generous and they help so many causes. Cwmbran people are really giving, really giving people, and I’m so proud to work at this store.”

Teams and charities are welcome from Sunday to Friday but slots must be booked in advance.

She said: “We try to get engaged with the local community and let them know we are here. If you need something and struggling with something we will do what we can.

“If anyone reaches out, I try my best to give them anything.

“We support them [groups and organisations] sometimes with vouchers and hampers for raffles and stuff like that.

“If you are a charity and have a cause you want to raise awareness of, you are welcome to come and do that as well.

“All year around we have a cage by the door. These are ready bags for food banks. Customers pick them up, scan with their shopping and drop it off in the cage next to the customer service desk.

“Every week we have three food banks collect.”

She said they support regular events like Children In Need and the Poppy Appeal. The supermarket nationwide is raising money for Marie Curie this year.

Nour said: “We started with them in October and we will be with them for three years. We’re aiming to raise about £15m.”

Morrison Cwmbran also supports Coleg Gwent by giving them vouchers and food bags to help struggling students.
