Nearly 400 children have enjoyed 11 new play sessions over the Christmas holidays.

The free New Year Play Days were held on Thursday and Friday this week and included activity and respite sessions.

It’s the first time Torfaen Play has held play provisions during the Christmas school holidays, thanks to around 100 staff and volunteers.

Julian Davenne, Torfaen Play manager, said: “We wanted to offer the opportunity for children to meet and play with friends over the Christmas holidays.

“We aimed to ensure that our services were available when they were most needed, providing a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for the kids to enjoy and benefit from.

“We’ve had lots of positive feedback from parents and carers, and I would like to thank our staff for making it possible.”

Around 100 play service staff and volunteers were on hand to run the sessions on Thursday and Friday this week.

The New Year Play Days were held at Garnteg Primary School, Pontypool; Cwmbran Stadium; Mount Pleasant Hall, Pontnewydd; Victory Church, Cwmbran; Greenmeadow and St. Dials Community Hall and Thornhill Community Centre, in Cwmbran.

Torfaen Play runs a wide range of sessions during term-time and school holidays, as well as family play sessions for children under five years old and respite sessions for children with additional needs.
